I saw an episode of Buzzfeed’s Worth It series that featured Uncle John’s Cafe in its breakfast episode (link HERE). And ever since then I bookmarked it as a must try. I was attracted to the diner food-Chinese food fusion and when I saw pics of seafood platter I was even more motivated to make the trip downtown.
And so earlier this week we were able to go for dinner only to find out they only do Cajun seafood for dinner. Fail. But we were hungry so we went ahead and ordered a bag of shrimp and mussels. Their house sauce is just the right proportion of Cajun spices, lemon, pepper, garlic & butter. The mild spice level is just a very light touch of heat/spice.
We ordered with sausage, potatoes and corn. The mussels were plump and juicy. I wish the shrimp was just a tad bigger but it was juicy and took the seasoning well.
Would I come back for the breakfast fare? Maybe not. Unless I find myself in the area. However if you’re in the area and craving for some Cajun seafood, I recommend Uncle John’s Cafe. The service did not lack and the lone server while we were there was very helpful and attentive without being overbearing.
